I just got another notebook: Dell XPS M1710 which is a 32 bit
machine.  I pretty much did the same installation procedure.
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 via Windows (Windows boot loader) and
then I installed wine 1.1.31 which came with the Ubuntu download
then I proceeded to install Microsoft .net using the script
you indicated winetricks dotnet20.  I installed SlingPlayer
and when I ran it, I got the same results: deficiency in wine.

My next step is to remove Windows from the entire scene
and install Ubuntu directly on the hard drive partition and
use Grub boot loader and see if I get the same results.

This is tiring.  Maybe I am just doing something absolutely wrong.
