Edward, I'm afraid I have no idea how to detect Gallium renderers or how to
enable them for that matter. I think what I'm going to do is submit the
patch(es) as updated by Cùran in attachment 26478. At least that gets Direct3D8
support for R300-R500 and Direct3D9 support for R600-R700. That's better than
what you would get for the R3/4/500 with fglrx (since those are no longer
supported and maintained in recent revs), and provides open source support for
the R6/700 series. It also provides a base for somebody to add Gallium
support/detection later so it would be good to get that included into the main
trunk so that we don't need to get Cùran to keep on refreshing the patch.

Either someone (else, since I don't have an R3/4/500) can add a new patch in
this bug or open a new bug for adding Gallium detection and support.
