You can manually patch it by opening dlls/wined3d/swapchain_base.c, finding
line 134, and changing WINED3D_OK to WINED3DERR_INVALIDCALL, then rebuilding.

However, that patchfile should work fine with 1.2RC7. Are you using some binary
release? You need to use git and compile it from source, there is an updated
guide to doing this on the main Starcraft 2 page.

A clean install should not be necessary, nor should his wine config.
