I believe he means he manually edited the source code, instead of using the
"patch" utility. Which should have no difference, the patch file works on
1.2RC7, I checked it myself.

He most likely did not restart the wineserver after applying the patch the
first time, or it failed to patch and he ignored the error message (zshell for
example requires you to use quotation marks around the URL for wget, and will
error using the main pages tutorial).
