How do I perform a "clean WINEPREFIX" and how do I run a "regression test"?

I installed Wine 1.2 using the "software centre" in Ubuntu.  Can I cleanly
re-install Wine 1.2?

Sorry, I've been using Ubuntu for less than 1 year, having been using Windows
for years.  This problem never existed until I updated Wine to version 1.2rc7,
according to the instructions on the winehq website:
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb

Does this problem only affect users of Ubuntu, perhaps?  I only upgraded Wine
to get the mouse pointer working properly in Lemmix (a lemmings clone).
