Ok ... 
Tested on same Gentoo amd64 with 1.1.19 and 1.1.18 same results, same trace.

I've found that really weird, so I downloaded Ubuntu Jaunty (x86) and installed
out of the box the wine 1.1.32 : it doesn't work.

The trace is same as the Gentoo wine 1.1.32 trace.

Tested with wine 1.1.18 (still on Ubuntu Jaunty) : still the same.

Also tried with OpenSuze 11.1 with wine 1.1.18 : still the same.

I just can't conduct a regression test since none of the noted "working"
version are. 
Something might have changed in that program making it unrunable under wine
