While I am still regression testing, this bug looks to be the Wine
manifestation of the "Cultist Laser Pistol Bug" that affects the game in
NT-style Windows systems as well.  There is some discussion of the problem at:

but the only workaround seems to be disabling the attack that is causing the
problem.
