I've just tested this in Gnome and behavior is just the same as what I
experience in XFCE.  So the original bug is definitely long gone.

As for the issue of window border being added and making it difficult to
position the window desirably, that comes from Eve's new resolution selector
only allows selecting of fullscreen resolution now so a window border will
always be an issue now.

I remember KDE 3.x had customisable settings for each and every window/app that
it managed, I used that feature very effectively to give me a borderless
fullscreen window that I could pop the taskbar over at will and control which
app was on top.  This had the added bonus of not crashing Eve in windowed mode
so long as I exclusively used the taskbar for controlling focus.  Sadly, such a
feature is not available to me now.

Reporting fixed.
