This is somewhat an old bug, but I'm still hit by it too.

Recently, I went into Visio "Tool" menu -> Options -> View and  I enabled the
"Smooth drawing" Display Option.  

With this, the rendering is very fast (before, I was seeing each object being
drawn, it was painfully slow...)

I'm under linux, with an intel integrated card (965GM).  My kernel is 2.6.31
with DRM  enabled, I'm running xorg 1.7 and Crossover Linux Pro 9.0.
