Yeah, that makes a difference, but only if you're in a virtual desktop:

no VD, using launcher: no sound
no VD, using masseffect2.exe: no sound
VD, using launcher: no sound
VD, using masseffect2.exe: sound

however, using the virtual desktop then gives you bug 23127, and makes
controlling the mouse harder..
