I had this problem, and I realised that I hadn't compiled wine with all of the
optional packages.  If you ./configure, you might see warnings at the end that
list many missing packages.  If you follow the README and just ./wineinstall,
it'll only let you know that some of the packages aren't installed.  I think it
might have been the libhal or libdbus package for this, but I'm not certain.
