Confirming the bug: both the demo and the GoG.com version of the game is
affected. Wine-1.2-rc2 shows the same issue, too.

Last working version: 1.1.40

Result of regression testing:

Reverting the patch on top of Wine-1.2-rc2 fixed the issue.
