I am also having this issue. This is from a fresh install of WoW using Wine
1.3.6, but the patch notes/game news does not display on the launcher. When the
game is updating it is completely blank, now that the updates have finished it
is giving me a message "Cannot connect to the News Server. Please check the
network and try again later."

I wonder if there is some setting in Wine to enable this. I can play WoW so the
network connection is up, but I did install IE6 and it would not connect to the
net. If the launcher is just rendering a web page could this be related?
