Still an issue for me (6GiB system RAM, x86_64 Linux OS, NVIDIA driver, World
of Warcraft specifically).
Patch at

fixes the problem for me so far (not suggesting it for merge, I know it's
nearly definitely not an acceptable solution).

haven't tried it yet, is probably a 100% solid solution for anyone having this
issue with any application (not just WoW).
