in Debian/sid, using Wine 1.3.7.

$ uname -a 
Linux mysystem 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Sat Oct 30 14:18:21 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux

Change Wine settings -> Audio. Uncheck ALSA and check OSS.
winver is Windows XP

Now there is sound ingame and cutscenes.

Additional notes:

Installed DirectX and VC runtime bundled with the game in the dir "redist".
