I got this bug too, a tiny thing like this actually makes the game unplayable.
My "workaround" is to use shift whenever i need to interact with objects or
NPC's.

Everything else works like a charm.

Specs:

Ubuntu 10.10 x64
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q8400 @ 2.66 GHz
RAM: 4GB
Video card: XFX GeForce 285 GTX
Driver: proprietary nvidia driver (260.19.06)
