I'd definitely say that's either a video card or video driver issue.  Which
drivers are you using with it, and what version?  Also, do you have fancy 3d
desktop effects turned on (e.g. Compiz)?

My system has a GeForce 9800M GS (512MB RAM) and everything works as well as it
should, with nvidia-drivers-260.19.06.
