Sample Linux program demonstrating bug

This test program should hang if bug is present, and 
not otherwise.  It hangs for me on my nvidia boxes with the proprietary
drivers.
(It could probably be simpler and clearer, improvements welcome.)
Can someone with an ATI card verify that it doesn't hang?
