OK i have found away around this problem. 

1. install autocad using wine and open portable license utility application
2. copy the system code to paper 
3. install autocad on to a windows system and then use the portable license
utility to export the license to a pen drive
4. reopen auto cad in Linux and import license using portable license utility
from the pen drive. 

hopefully that will work for you.
