I cannot reproduce this issue with wine-1.3.2. Maximizing the window by Alt-Tab
or clicking directly works as expected. My window manager is KWin (KDE 4.4.5).
Which window manager do you use?
Every time I maximize the window the line

err:xrender:get_xrender_format_from_color_shifts No XRender format found!

is repeated. Maybe that has something to do with your problem?
