I had also white spaces and artefacts after scrolling the document. 

Activating "Use synchronous mode of page rendering" in PDF-XChange Viewer (Edit
-> Preferences -> Performance) solved the problem --- now it works perfectly
for me.

(wine-1.3.26, PDF-Xchange Viewer 2.5 b197)
