I was able to correct this problem following the instructions on bug 14045
comment 52 (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14045).

In short:

Using regedit change "HW_OK" = 1 in key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp8\GLConfig\Display


I'm running fedora core 15 on an old Acer Aspire 5920 notebook.
