The installation went well until the serial number was asked and then the
installer said the serial number is not valid.  The exact same problem can be
reproduced on 32-bit wine 1.2.3 on 64-bit ubuntu 9.04, 64-bit ubuntu 11.04, and
64-bit Scientific Linux 6.1.  The installation started from fresh setup exe
file.  Not sure installation of updates was involved in the process. 
Installing IE6 did not help.

The serial number is legitimate and can be installed on Windows XP.  

The version in question is Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.
