there is a patch to trace that a bit better and the log in bug 24598 as:

This is also not a real regression as my patch just enabled you to see the
existing bug with newer headers.

The Problem is that the gamma curve/ramp as per log is seemingly correct but is
already at the maximum in field 3 of 256 so that's quite bright.
I'll test what Win does here and even if it accepts it, we should consider to
hack out too dark and too bright gamma ramps.
