While it's probably not quite related, in bug 25717,
one of the problems is similar to this one - fbo vs backbuffer,
in favor of backbuffer.

I too have minor floods of 
err:d3d:loadVertexData >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_ENUM (0x500) from
glBindBufferARB @ state.c / 4411 (framebuffer)
err:d3d:check_fbo_compat >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_VALUE (0x501) from
Framebuffer format check @ utils.c / 1090 (fbo)
(though it seems there are not as many with backbuffer).

However, I've got an ati card and I'm using open drivers.
Multisampling seems to make no difference there.
