I too am having this problem under Mac OSX platform.  What it resembles is what
a windows system would do if there were no video drivers installed.  I am new
to wine and would like to get this worked out because FL Studio is the only
thing keeping me on a windows system.

Question: Do you have to install any type of video drivers in wine, or is there
a place to control graphic parameters?
