I noticed this while looking at bug 4122. If I put a jpeg and a png in
~/.wine/drive_c, then do:
austin at aw21 ~/.wine/drive_c $ wine iexplore.exe "C:\\test.jpeg"

it works fine. Doing the same with a png file, however, fails:
austin at aw21 ~/.wine/drive_c $ wine iexplore.exe "C:\\test.png"
