I'm also experiencing a similar problem, and I'm running Debian 5.0.7 and wine
version 1.3.11

Specs-
Intel Core Duo CPU 1.73 GHz
2 GB RAM
Intel 945GM graphics card 128 MB (I think)

My hardware doesn't seem to be the problem as I've had the game run on Windows
Vista with this same computer a week ago.
Also yields same results with Ubuntu 10.10.
