Can't confirm. I was able to download KindleForPC (1.1.0.30136), created and
amazon account from this app. Chose some paid book and select send a free
sample.

After that, it showed up in application KindleForPC and i was able to read this
sample.

Wine: 1.3.23, 1.3.23-160-g38c13e5.
