I experience similar problems, though not at the same places.

However, now that I use the attached patch, it's not crashing at or before the
menu any more, so it may be time to consider closing this particular bug
(though the patch is certainly new enough that maybe too few about it yet) and
opening a different one for in-game crashes, if that hasn't already been
created.
