Indeed, disabling one of the cpu cores (or using taskset) improves the
situation considerably: during sailing almost all of those hiccups have gone;
loading times are also much shorter between scenes.
Certain minigames (e.g. sword fighting) still behave erratically (there are
several seconds pause during gameplay).
