After a bit of testing I've found that the crash usually occurs when attempting
to overwrite a previous save game. Even saving over a manually saved game will
cause the game to crash and corrupt the file.

So far, sticking with manual saves( or quick saves possibly )and disabling
autosave has resulted in a stable experience.
