Actually, ignore my previous question -- I just found out something interesting
in my case, perhaps it applies to yours. I realized after I posted that I
forgot to remove my --without-xinput2 flags. After doing this, so that wine is
compiled with xinput2 as it is in the vanilla package, it no longer hangs, so
it's nothing to do with the aforementioned patches most probably.

Perhaps your issue is the same?
