That is some excellent investigative work, well done!

A lack of certificates certainly isn't a Wine bug, but Wine doesn't report an
error so maybe it should?  That is, if the responsibility for validating
certificates does indeed belong to Wine, if not, then invalid.

Bug opened in Ubuntu.
