I could never get to the ship select screen.

In my desktop (NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT) it always hangs or crashes in the
bursting screen, right before the ship select menu.

I see the exact same behaviour with VirtualBox, which uses wined3d, so I
presume the problem is in wined3d.

I also have a netbook with AMD Fusion + fglrx, I see a similar hang in a black
screen, but it happens earlier, before I can see the Sega splash screen.
