I attempted each workaround listed. I am using CrossOver to handle most of the
activities. I have two accounts. One blank and one has 8 characters on it. 

1: I renamed both 

LoadingIconAnim.dds
LoadingScreen.jpg

to 
LoadingIconAnim.dds.old
LoadingScreen.jpg.old

2: I forced the library to use dxd9_36.dll

3: Turned off WiFi after pushing play button

4: Tried using a fresh account without any characters

I tried variations on each of these workarounds to no success.
