I reproduced it as follows:
  rm -rf ~/.wine
  winetricks ie8    (ie7 wasn't enough)
  wget
http://www.bigfishgames.com/download-games/2230/mystery-case-files-madame-fate/download.html
  mv download.html setup.exe
  ~/wine-git/wine setup.exe
Then use the manager to download and install
  cd ~/".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Mystery Case Files - Madame Fate"
  ~/wine-git/wine Madame\ Fate.exe

Feels kinda like copy protection...
