Now that bug #28259 has been fixed, the demo loads to the menu without
crashing.
However, the flickering, blinking screen issue as well as the strange colors
are still there. They were also caused by commit
abf8728e1f2f966650eaa5528a1f593a6e1986bb.

I think it's safe to mark this bug report as fixed.
Bug #28217 and bug #28227 are dealing with the remaining problems.
