With kubuntu 11.04 and the wine1.4 package from ppa repository, I get the error
gretawatson at sbcglobal.net reported in comment 12, both with kindle 1.8.3 and
the latest kindle version 1.9.3. However, kindle 1.3.0 does work. After
installing allfonts as suggested, kindle 1.9.3 does open books.(In reply to

With kubuntu 11.04 and the wine1.4 package from the ubuntu-wine ppa repository
on launchpad, I get the error gretawatson at sbcglobal.net reported in comment 12,
both with kindle 1.8.3 and the latest kindle version 1.9.3. (However, kindle
1.3.0 does work.)

After installing allfonts as suggested, kindle 1.9.3 does open books.
