I tested using http://mwreplays.com/replay/4DVYFZ381463/ (version 8.1) replay
with the default config, looking at the in-game FPS at 20 seconds before the
start of the battle.
pre-patch with workaround = 18-19 in-game FPS
pre-patch without workaround = 6-7 in-game FPS
post-patch with workaround = 18-19 in-game FPS
post-patch without workaround = 6 in-game FPS
The workaround is

Nothing's changed on my machine. Just to mention, my low settings config give
me twice the FPS when running natively in Windows (vs WINE w/ workaround).
I am running an AMD Radeon HD 6770 w/ fglrx 12.10. glxinfo does list
GL_ARB_instanced_arrays in OpenGL extensions.
