Let's make this bug about the install problem, which is now fixed; 
it installs fine in a clean .wine directory.

The exception you got before installing DirectX9 was from wine lacking
the deprecated Managed DirectX package, I think; it's not a normal directx-d3d
problem.  You could open a bug for that, but it's unlikely to be fixed.
(Managed DirectX is deprecated anyway.)

The exception that goes away when you use native gdiplus is bug 24288.
