Francois, can you post a link to an mpg file that fails on your system? There
is another bug (bug 28987) for some videos not playing in WMP, and that does
affect Powerpoint, too. 

An mpg file that inserts and plays fine for me in Powerpoint without installing
WMP is http://www.archive.org/download/CEP_00_071/CEP_00_071.mpg.
