I've been seeing this too.  Happens whenever wine is set to simulate any
version of windows newer than XP (tried: Vista, 2008, 7, 2008 R2).  I'm
guessing Steam is trying to detect if Aero is enabled, and then do something
with it...?  IDK.  Wine 1.5.6
