I can confirm that William's modification (comment 39) of Erich's patch
(comment 31) does indeed work (yet I have to check running the installer with
clean wineprefix). I was able to patch the game from beta version 13 to beta
version 14 without any launcher/wineserver crash. This means that a windoze
installation is not needed anymore for updating the game, although running the
launcher is a bit slow as it might take several minutes for it to get past the
"Checking for updates..." phase and the follow-up logo box.
