On my wine 1.4.0, 
$wine iexplore browserchoice.eu

displays blank page with some chinese character in URL bar (I have got polish
version of Ubuntu 11.10, with most of the messages in english). 

Retyping url in URL bar redirects the browser correctly to some Microsoft page
and then to www.browserchoice.eu.

BUT

$wine iexplore http://browserchoice.eu

works correctly.
