I'm having the same problem.  
I can play single player just fine but when I go online I can not join or
create network games.
I installed via winetricks
wininit
xact
d3dx9_36
WMP 9 & 10
I also downloaded wvc1dmod.dll to my system32 folder & registered it "wine
regsvr32 wvc1dmod.dll"

I tried Wine-1.4.1 & Wine-1.5.14 
Two worlds version is 1.7
I am using Debian Stable XFCE with Nvidia driver 304.51
