The problem isn't that you're using PulseAudio per se, it's that you are using
the unofficial winepulse driver. Unfortunately, unlike Fedora, which packages
the driver separately so it can be easily uninstalled, Ubuntu has made it
impossible for users of its Wine packages to remove the winepulse driver. 

I downloaded the app, and can confirm the problem in plain Wine. I also did a
quick test in 1.4, since I had that already built, and the problem is there,
too, so if this is a regression, it is much older than the "few weeks" before
1.5.16 that you originally reported. 

I'm changing the severity to trivial; as you say, the tracks play normally.
