I can confirm this crash with wine 1.5.20 from Ubuntu 12.10 and with
wine-1.5.22-254-gc14bdaf compiled from git. 
It is possible to update the game by uninstalling it (either from steam or by
deleting the game folder) and then re-downloading the whole game.
