It still is a problem with wine 1.6rc3.
I tried this with a freshly created wineprefix (WINEARCH=win32 - I'm on a
x86_64 system).
As a second step I tried with native msvcrt.dll, msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll -
got them with "winetricks vcrun6 vcrun2003".
In both cases the installation seems to start fine, but then aborts with a
dialog box saying that the installation program cannot run in GUI mode.
Output for both tests is attached.

Installation seems to work when running "wine setupwin32.exe -silent".
The game still does not work, but that might not be related...
