I installed the debug version of gecko 1.9, now there is a bit more info:

Assertion failure: _mOwningThread.GetThread() == PR_GetCurrentThread()
(nsWindowWatcher not thread-safe), at
/build/wine-mozilla-1.9/embedding/components/windowwatcher/src/nsWindowWatcher.cpp:296^M
